Absentis Vesanus is a distinguished battlemage known for his unwavering loyalty to County Leyawiin, his service under Countess Caro, and the Empire. His reputation is built on multiple military engagements and strategic victories against daedric adversaries. In the aftermath of the Deadlands incursions in the Blackwood region, Absentis Vesanus recognized the need for a dedicated force to safeguard Cyrodiil from future threats. Thus, he founded the Violet Cohort, an imperial-aligned militia with a clear mandate: to prepare for and counter any impending incursions that might endanger the realm. Later on, his Violet Cohort would be adopted into the Dragonfire Society: a movement that aims to prepare for the arrival of a true Dragonborn Emperor.

through trials and tribulations,
the battlemages conquered the arcane arts.
but even the most powerful of us eventually wither and die.
and when none of us stand, the forces of oblivion shall reign.

Absentis Vesanus is characterized by his calm and cautious nature, maintaining composure under pressure and carefully assessing risks before acting. In social gatherings, he carries the typical wit and arrogance that is expected of Imperial Battlemages, yet still shows signs of sympathy and empathy. He is hard to trust others, a trait developed from past betrayals, and relies only on proven allies. Despite his caution, Vesanus is easily motivated by calls to action, responding swiftly to threats against himself and his allies due to his strong sense of duty. His actions can be driven by fear when pushed hard enough, leading to more aggressive and desperate decisions to neutralize threats.

strengths

+ Battlemage Mettle
Through the hardships faced at the Battlespire, Vesanus is able to clear his mind and focus under pressure.
+ The Atronach's Power
Born under the sign of the Atronach, Vesanus has a significantly large pool of magicka that he can tap into. His offensive spells become more volatile and his defensive spells become stronger.
+ Blunt and Shield
Vesanus recieved elite blunt and shield training as a member of the Imperial Legion. He is considered competent with these skills.
+ Alteration and Conjuration
Vesanus received elite Alteration and Conjuration training at the Battlespire. He is considered an expert in both of these fields of magic.

weaknesses

- Battlemage Paranoia
Past betrayals have put Vesanus on edge. The Battlemage is slow to trust and even slower at forming bonds and connections.
- The Atronach's Burden
There is a heavy cost to sustaining the power of the Atronach. Vesanus’ magicka reserves recover at a markedly slower pace, forcing him to ration his spellcasting and fight prolonged engagements at a disadvantage. This attunement also leaves him more vulnerable to hostile magic, as offensive spells bite deeper and linger longer than they would against other Battlemages. Even restorative arts offer diminished relief. Healing spells from Restoration magic are less effective on him, requiring greater effort or time to achieve the same results. The strength he draws from the Atronach demands discipline, foresight, and a willingness to endure suffering when his power runs thin.

common

Imperial Patriot - Absentis Vesanus has been an active figure in the political landscape of Cyrodiil since 2E 589, when he founded the Violet Cohort. In the years that followed, he made frequent visits to Leyawiin, delivering public addresses that called for the removal of the Three Banners from Cyrodiil and a renewed, unified Imperial effort to reclaim the heartland.
His speeches would be transcribed and shared among active cities and towns within Cyrodiil
Battlemage Palatine and Chancellor - In the aftermath of the Deadlands incursions that threatened Blackwood in 2E 589, Absentis Vesanus founded the Violet Cohort with the singular purpose of preparing for future Daedric threats against the region. Over the years, his ranks steadily grew, drawing in both seasoned veterans and newly enlisted soldiers willing to take up arms against the Daedra. Those seeking to join the Violet Cohort were directed to an Imperial fortification along the Blackwood coast known as Ironfalls Citadel, situated within the Niben territory of Angahal. In 2E 293, Absentis Vesanus organized various Imperial Houses to join the Red Diamond Coalition that aimed the restore Imperial rule in Cyrodiil. After it's formation, Vesanus was chosen to be the first Chancellor of the RDC

Scholar and Former Mages Guild Associate - In the early years of the Planemeld, between 2E 582 and 2E 586, Vesanus maintained close ties with the Mages Guild, particularly its Gold Coast chapter. During this time, he developed an intense fascination with Ayleid architecture and design, believing these ancient structures to be conduits capable of containing and channeling raw arcane power. This obsession gradually drew him away from his formal duties, and he ultimately abandoned his studies after a falling out with another Mages Guild member. He would sever his ties with the Guild altogether after the incident.
Absentis Vesanus would have copies of his unfinished work "The Architecture Conduit" in various guild halls in Cyrodiil. Scholars may be able to contact him to know more about his work

uncommon

The Trials of the Battlespire - It is no secret that Absentis Vesanus was trained at the Battlespire. Recruited at the age of sixteen in 2E 568, he remained there until 2E 576, when a catastrophic training incident resulted in the death of his commanding officer. In the wake of this event, Vesanus was forced to “leave” the Battlespire.
Characters who have trained at the Battlespire around the same time would know Absentis directly or indirectly. He was a man who was overly cautious and paranoid, even with his close friends and allies.
Former Leovic Loyalist - Vesanus has always been fiercely loyal to the Empire, even during the controversial reign of Emperor Leovic. During the Colovian Revolt, he fought against Varen’s forces, at times standing in open opposition to his own Battlemage colleagues. Yet after Leovic’s defeat, Vesanus, along with the Battlemage cohort that had fought beside him, laid down their arms and formally surrendered to Varen’s rule.
Only Battlemages who have fought with or against Absentis during this time would know this information.
A Man of Many Names - Absentis is careful to maintain a clean public image as the face of his Society and the Coalition he leads. When circumstances require him to skirt the laws of other provinces or engage in unsavory dealings, he operates under assumed names and false identities, using intermediaries such as criminals and bounty hunters to carry out his will. He never keeps an alias for long, frequently discarding and replacing them to ensure his true identity remains untraceable.
Only a handful of associates know of his unsavory dealings

Tribune of the Violet Cohort
Fiance

“You always knew the right words to say, even when I did not wish to hear them. You were never afraid to stand beside me, nor to stand against me when I was wrong. Somehow, you have always seen through the armor, the titles, and the ambition, and loved the man beneath them all the same. For that, I know how fortunate I am to have you at my side.”

Erinna Andronicus

Prefect of the Violet Cohort

“One of the few Battlemages I can call not merely an ally, but a true friend. We fought side by side for many years during our training at the Battlespire, bound together by discipline, hardship, and battles that left their marks upon us both. I cherish that bond and the trust forged through fire and shared survival. In another life, perhaps our relationship might have been something different, something simpler."

"You have done more for the Empire than most, my friend. When I am in your presence, I feel welcomed. Many hate you because they know they can never reach the same level of devotion you have committed to The Eight. I only wish you see yourself the same way I see you."

Ghost-Throat

“I was skeptical of him at first. The opportunity he was given came at Mathei’s behest, who vouched for him without hesitation. In time, Ghost-Throat exceeded all my expectations as a leader of Imperial forces, proving himself as a powerful arcane ally. If only he had remained to lend his strength and leadership to our Society.”

“I am quite fond of the khajiit people. They are good neighbors to the locals of Blackwood and Merchant Lord Jirroh is a good representative for them. He rarely visits but I often make time to host him if he ever visits the region.”

“The Countess has shown commendable initiative, she turned uncertainty into shelter for those with nowhere left to go. I respect that deeply. Still, the border will test her resolve, and I fear she has not yet seen the worst of what it offers. When she does, I hope she stands ready to adapt with the Coalition at her side.”

“The Baron is a tough old Nord. I am not surprised he has refused to yield and continues to stand in defense of the Red Diamond. He has earned my highest respects... for someone who lacks magical fortitude. May he live long, and stay in good health."

“Few nobles understand what it means to rule beside a warzone, and he has endured where others fractured. His house remains standing because he chose resolve over comfort. My only failing is that I was not there to lend my strength to his father before his passing. I will not make that same mistake."

“There is something cruel about watching a Battlemage search for a missing piece of herself. I want to trust her, perhaps because I know what it is to be cast out and questioned. She has earned her place for now. When the Battlespire calls, I hope she finds her answers."

Jaxarius Decimus

Drake Galain

Ally

“It never hurts to maintain cordial relations with Altmer from distant lands... that is how trade routes are opened and safe travel lanes are secured. Still, it is a shame that he does not seem to possess any real sense of loyalty to Cyrodiil, nor, it would seem, to mainland Tamriel at all. It is obvious his allegiance is to himself and the island he governs."

Zhysen-Iolus Aloysus

Ally

“One of the few people I fought beside during the Blackwood Campaign whom I can say, without doubt, fought for more than coin. I call her Titan-Slayer as a mark of respect. Unfortunate that her heart does not keep her in Cyrodiil, where it is needed the most."

Bevinel Berovu

“This witch and her familiar have proven themselves useful against the forces of Oblivion, and I will not deny the effectiveness of her craft. Still, usefulness is not the same as trust. I intend to keep a careful eye on her, for one cannot afford comfort where witches are concerned."

"Upholding a positive reputation is a necessary weakness. A weakness that has obstructed me from seeing to matters personally... hiring assassins, and bounty hunters is a necessary evil for my line of work. Yet this girl I hired... I sense a familiar energy surrounding her, and she did pass the task presented to her where others have failed... I will be watching her progress. Carefully."

Thérèse Corentin

Associate?

"I have always held a certain fascination with her kind, the witches. She is an oddity even among them, deeply entangled in the political affairs of High Rock. From what I have seen, she makes a habit of surrounding herself with individuals of strikingly diverse backgrounds. I cannot yet say what her true goals are, but when dealing with the Wyrd, one must assume that every kindness carries a price, and that treachery is not a possibility, but an expectation."

· · ─────── 𖢻 ─────── · ·

Nolus Decimius

Complicated

“There have been very few mages I have respected who were not forged by the Spire, and Nolus was once counted among them. In the end, he surprised me... by reminding me how misplaced my faith was in any mage who lacks a sense of duty to a united Cyrodiil. Respect, without loyalty, is empty promises.”

Eix-Wa

Dislikes

“Disappointment, that is the word that best describes this waste of the Empire’s training. He claims to act in the best interests of County Leyawiin, yet lacks the spine to defend its borders, let alone expand them. Instead, he drifts through the swamps, playing at belonging with some newly found tribe. He already had a tribe. It was called the Battlespire, and he abandoned it.”

Octavius Mondragon

Dislikes

“I see through your facade. I see the hunger for power you pretend to master, the lie you tell yourself that the dark arts are somehow justified beneath the gaze of the Divines. Nothing offends me more than that self-satisfied grin, stretched thin over the rot you dare to call a face.
